My Tensegrity (Tension Integrity) Stand was inspired by Buckminster Fuller, who was an architect and inventor (amongst other things). The Geodesic Dome was one of his designs.

“A 'tensegrity structure' is a design principle where a structure maintains its form by balancing compression and tension forces.”

I've combined this with the Yin Yang concept where opposing forces are in harmony, complimentary and independent.

The stand is capable of holding a few pounds using the center structures. Having something on top actually accentuates the illusion of it floating. The wires on the outside help stabilize the side to side forces.
