This is untouched.  A little challenge to open up. The tuning knob is actually screwed on. I found it easier to get the case clear of the protruding levers by placing it on its side after first unscrewing the metal bottom plate. All tubes test ok except for the 6N5 eye tube. One is on order. I'm missing one of the small knobs. First things first, new line cord.

New cord. Passed dim bulb test. No sound at all from the speaker. Speaker tests good. May be the field coil.

I've replaced all of the paper caps thinking it might be a coupling problem. The IF transformers are good. I signal traced to the detector grid and got a good signal but nothing past that. The new eye tube doesn't light up at all. I think I have a voltage problem going to the plates. The power transformer is working ok. The only thing that I haven't replaced are the e-caps. I hope that's the problem. They're dual 5uf which seem small, but with the addition of the field coil (which tests OK) it should filter enough (?). I don't have that value, so I've ordered 4.7uf which should be close enough.

I've put in new e-caps and the radio now works! However, it does have a moderate background hum. I've tried increasing the values of the filter caps with no change. Might be a lead dressing problem, or a problem with a tube. I've swapped out the 6K6 (audio output) with no change, I don't have another 6Q7 (first audio) so I've ordered one. In the meantime I'll play with moving leads around.

After much fiddling and testing, I determined that the hum was definiteley a power supply issue. Even though I had tried increasing the e-caps earlier, apparently it wasn't enough. I traded one of the 4.7uf caps with a 30uf one and now the hum is manageable.

I set about buffing the case and replacing the grill cloth

The new eye tube looks great.

I've sent for replacement tuning 'levers'.
